Note: The concept for this environment was based on the work of Libby Winberg, an interior designer in Australia. You can view Libby’s work here

For one of my units at Unveristy, I was tasked with highlighting a designated role within industry that I wish to emulate. Looking back at previous projects of mine, I wanted to tackle my criticisms head on. For this project, I decided to explore the use of lighting in UE4 and how a lighting set-up has various effects on the mood, tone and atmosphere of the scene. This would also involve creating a material library that worked in tandem with my lighting set-up.

It was my goal to create a small environment piece which used a professionaly developed lighting and post-production set-up, borrowing from the workflow and methodology of architetural visualisation artists.

All assets in this scene were created by myself, including the lighting set-up and post-processing pass. This was the first project in which I utilised Substance Designer in my work also.

Software Used:

  • Unreal Engine 4
  • 3DS Max
  • Substance Designer
  • Photoshop
  • Quixel Suite, NDo
